One Earth Events Guide to:Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) For Children

Remember that Every person out there can save a life, its a case of if they do or do not do CPR. The question is could you live with the guilt f you didn't try?  Also remember that it is very rare in children for them to have a heart attack it is much more likely from Poison, head trauma or other conditions

Below are the most up to date instructions:

  • If you have someone with you, send them to dial 112 for an ambulance immediately.
  • If you are alone dial 112 for an ambulance immediately and then return to help the casualty.

Position the injured child on his or her back, being extremely careful not to move or twist the head, neck or Spine.

  • Maintain an open airway while you pinch the injured child's nose shut.
  • Give two long, slow breaths, being sure to maintain a seal between your mouth and his or hers.
  • Has Child now started Breathing (Yes Put them into the recovery position Unless you suspect a Spinal injury. No Continue)
  • Position the hands: Find the lower tip of the breastbone. Measure two finger widths toward the head, and place the heel of one hand in this location
  • Place the other hand on top of the first hand, interlacing the fingers of both hands.
  • Lean forward so that the shoulders are over your hand.
  • Push downward on the chest, using the weight of your upper body for strength. Repeat the compressions 30 times, at a rate of 100 per minute.
  • Repeat Cycle until either Casualty starts breathing or Emergency help arrives

Do not stop unless:

  • Emergency help arrives and takes over.
  • The casualty breathes normally or
  • You become so exhausted that you cannot carry on.

These guidelines may help you save a Life, if you are not confident enough to try and do this then why not take a course in CPR with an organisation like the British Red Cross
